A new documentary has been released called Dead Man’s Line: The True Story of Tony Kiritsis available on iTunes and Amazon, $5.99 for purchase, .99 cents to rent. While the central figures in the film are Kiritsis and his hostage Dick Hall, the film’s cast includes dozens of law enforcement officers from the Indianapolis Police Department, Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It also portrays the fascinating involvement of long time FOP attorney Jack Ruckelshaus. With all the present scrutiny on law enforcement and how they handle crises, we don’t always hear about what the police get right. Looking back at the Kiritsis incident in 1977 (41 years ago this week), one might expect the police to make missteps even with the best intentions in mind.
